Justine Sturgiss

I started my law career in Mackay, studying externally and working full time in a law firm. I moved to Brisbane for a short period in my early twenties and gained exposure working within large law and finance corporations. My home is Mackay, and being born and bred here, I just could not stay away! Upon graduating from the University of Southern Queensland with a Bachelor of Laws, I began working as a Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner (Family Mediator) and Child Inclusive Practitioner with a government funded service. This experience allowed me to see the benefits of trying to resolve matters before court, not only for the client’s sake, but for their children.
Being recently employed at Wallace and Wallace Lawyers, I am excited to transfer my skills and knowledge from the social services sector into the private sector. I am passionate about Family Law, and aim to assist clients by providing empathy and understanding with a child centred approach. I understand that whether you have children or not, family law matters are a highly emotional and stressful time. My aim is to help you through this challenging period. No matter how big or small you think your situation might be, it’s important to you, so it’s important to me.
Outside of law, I enjoy keeping active, strength training, travelling, camping, spending quality time with my husband, young daughter and our dog, and helping out on the family farm. I am also the President of the Mackay Regional Community Legal Centre and have served on various boards previously including housing and suicide prevention.
